El Salvador tops Canada in futsal qualifier

GUATEMALA CITY - Rene Rosales scored all four goals to lead El Salvador past Canada 4-1 on Thursday in the first leg of a qualifying playoff for the final berth in the CONCACAF Futsal Championship.
The two will play again on Friday with the winner on aggregate claiming the last spot in the eight-team CONCACAF finals. The winner will join Group A with host Guatemala, Panama and the United States. Rosales put El Salvador ahead in the third minute but Alex Elliot replied for Canada nine seconds later. Rosales restored El Salvador's lead in the 19th minute, and added goals in the 27th and 36th to ensure the victory.
Canada outshot the Salvadorans 37-26 and had 12 corners to the Central Americans' five. The match was the third meeting between Canada and El Salvador and the first since 2001 and also the first in a competitive match.
